Arms and ammunitions seized in Manipur

Police seized a huge cache of arms and ammunitions in a raid to a militants’ hideout in Manipur’s Thoubal district, official sources said Monday.
The recovered arms and ammunitions include one UGBL A-4 rifle, one INSAS rifle, two M-16 rifle, three AK-56 rifle, one 0.303 rifle, two M-23 bipod LMG type rifle, 12 AK magazines, one .303 magazine and five round of .303, 148 round of AK ammunitions and156 rounds of M-16 ammunitions.
Police commandos in Thoubal district unearthed the cache which was found hiding in a tyre tube underneath the ground at a spot near a temple at Wabagai Makha Leikai under Kakching police station of Thoubal district last night.
Thoubal senior SP, Clay Khongsai said a team of police commandos conducted the raid based on the information of presence of some KYKL cadres in the area last night around 11 pm. The operation lasted till midnight. However no arrest of UG cadres made during the operation, Clay added. The recovery was another achievement of the Thoubal police commandos countering with the militants in the district, he said.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened and the district police have intensified counter insurgency operations.
Villagers nab militant
Villagers nabbed a militant who came to extort money at Lamlai area in Imphal East district, police said today. The militant, identified L Davidson (24), was rounded up by the villagers and handed over to the Lamlai police station yesterday.
Davidson, a resident of Lamlai area, is a member of Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Council and was nabbed by villagers while he was trying to extort money, police said.
A 9 mm pistol, one magazine and four rounds of ammunition was recovered from him, they said adding that he was being interrogated.
