Implementation of horti schemes in state praised

Former Additional Commissioner of Horticulture and chief consultant of national horticulture programme R K S Rathore on Tuesday lauded the implementation of horticulture schemes in the state within the past one decade.
He pointed out that there has been a tremendous growth in production and production area within the last few years, apart from the increase in per capita income of the farmers. Rathore, who is also the leader of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) set up by the centre to evaluate the implementation of the programmes, expressed contentment over the increase in production within the past few years and pointed out that the scenario, has changed completely. It may be added that the chief consultant of national horticulture programme visited Wokha, Mokokchung and Kohima within the past three days.
Interacting with media persons at Midway resort, Tsiepama, Rathore asserted that potential of horticulture was huge within the state taking into consideration, the favorable soil and weather conditions for horti crops. He also went on to say the production from the region can feed the entire horti demand across country, if fully realized.
Maintaining that both the state and central government were equally concerned about horticulture development, Rathore disclosed that the government was actively considering on extending the programmes in the next five years plan.
When asked about the marketing aspect, Rathore said the central government was making serious efforts to bring out models in order to link up the farmers and market.
Meanwhile, Mission Director Dr Benjong Aier who also accompanied the chief consultant disclosed that a survey was in the pipeline to bring out feasibility of connecting ropeway between Molvom village to Jharnapani and in Changki village area inorder to transport horti crops. The survey to be conducted and implemented by IIT Roorkee, will be carried out across the state, if found successful.
