Consumer Society Dimapur District (CSDD) has sought the intervention of chief secretary in cancellation and forfeiture of security deposit amount particularly of those erring FPS (under TPDS scheme) in Dimapur district out of total 39 numbers approved FPS (2010-11). The CSDD said some of these were non-functional, non-existent including those FPS and running in contravention of the Supreme Court directive and orders of the concerned departments.
CSDD president, Khekivi Z. Wotsa and press secretary, Pradip Sethi through a statement also appealed the department of food and civil supplies to maintain that; the government should make a series of reviews in government procurement and distribution transparent policy from time to time to ensure availability of foodgrains, S. K. Oil etc under TPDS scheme through the network of FPS only.
It said that the government should publish the norms for giving fresh licenses and eligibility criteria for getting a license for viable FPS in the district before selection of appointment of new FPS. The CSDD also said that the government should give more coverage of consumers after taking into account the realistic needs and requirements in the district.
Further, it appealed the district authority to look into the matter of genuine consumers already leaving below poverty line in small portion of slum areas of Half Nagarjan, Zeliangrong Village, Lhomithi Colony, Riverbelt, Kevijau, Westyard, Netaji, Rangailong colonies for inclusion under BPL/AAY Scheme. The CSDD said this should be done only after exclusion of existing bogus ration cards as well as bogus units in the ration cards.
The CSDD welcomed any rejoinder from the FPS to clarify their stand basing on Deed of Agreement executed with the concerned department.
