Rape incidents condemned

Two minors, including a physically challenged girl were raped in different incidents- one in Kikruma village, Phek district on January 3, the second in Mon town on January 7 and the third in Dimapur on January 9.
Minor girl raped: A minor aged 15 from Puro clan was allegedly raped by one Tsahuyo Thira son of late Moiinyo Thira at Kikruma village on January 3, at around 6: 30 pm.
According to a statement issued jointly by Puro Clan Kikruma chairman Thupunepra Puro and general secretary Dzuvengoyo Puro, the accused “mercilessly tortured, physically assaulted and allegedly raped” the minor. The Puro clan said that the accused is a government employee serving as Sectional Assistant (SA) under PWD (R&B) Pfutsero sub-division, Phek District and former champion of Naga Wrestling. Strongly condemning the “heinous crime” committed by Tsahuyo Thira, the Puro clan said that demanded that the culprit should “never be allowed” to be accommodated in a civilized society. The clan described the act of the culprit as “savage and barbaric and further urged upon the authorities to punish the culprit strictly, as per the law of the land.
Meanwhile, the Kikruma Women Welfare Society (KWWS) expressed deep shock and pain on learning that Tsahuyo Thira was found to have raped the minor. It strongly condemned the “shameful act” and appealed to the authorities to immediately arrest the culprit and award him with the most severe punishment as per the law of the land.
“This heinous crime is indeed a great insult to the modesty of women in general and a most alarming threat to the safety and equality of women in this modern society,” KWWS said in a statement issued by its president, Nuthistsulu Puro and secretary, Vetolu Puro.
TUD condemns Jan 7 rape: Tamlu Union Dimapur (TUD) has strongly condemned the rape on minor by one Phongwang son of Chingham of Lempong Sheanghah village at Mon town on January 7. TUD president, B. J. Nekong said described the accused person as having “an animal instinct” and had “mercilessly” raped an eight year-old daughter of his landlord. TUD appealed the authorities to punish the culprit at the earliest. The TUD cautioned that failure to deliver justice at the right time might have “repercussion” and for which it should not be held responsible.
Physically challenged girl gang raped: In another shocking incident, a 21year-old physically challenged girl was allegedly gang raped by three “immigrants” January 9 at Bamund Pukhuri, Dimapur. According to a statement released by Lotha union Purana Bazar Area, Dimapur the three accused identified as-Sirazul Ali, Prem Bahadur Shanar and Gopal Gurung- committed the crime on January 9 at around 7:30 p.m. All three have been arrested and are currently under police custody.
Expressing resentment and strongly condemning the inhuman and barbaric act, the union appealed to the law enforcing agencies to award appropriate penalty and punishment as per the provision of the law in order to eradicate social virus penetrating in Naga society.
It also urged all right thinking citizens and NGOs to condemn such heinous crime committed on a physically challenged and helpless person.
Meanwhile, the union has thanked the Dimapur police for the swift action in arresting all the accused involved in the crime.
