The family of Jared Loughner, the suspect in Arizona shooting rampage, has apologised to the relatives of those killed, saying, “we are so very sorry for their loss”.
According to the USA Today, a statement handed to reporters Tuesday by Loughner’s parents said: “There are no words that can possibly express how we feel.”
“We wish that there were, so we could make you feel better. We don’t understand why this happened,” Randy and Amy Loughner wrote in the statement.
“We care very deeply about the victims and their families. We are so very sorry for their loss.”
Six people were killed in the shooting Jan 8 that also gravely wounded congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was holding a “Congress on Your Corner” event in front of a grocery store in Tucson city of the US state.
On Wednesday, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are scheduled to attend a memorial service on the University of Arizona campus.
The US president has called the rampage a tragedy for the entire country.
Loughner, a troubled 22-year-old college dropout, was charged Monday in a federal court with two counts of murder and two other counts of attempted murder. He is being held without bail.
