Welcoming the two Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislators Dr. Chumben Murry, minister for agriculture and Pangnyu Phom, parliamentary secretary for RD & REPA to NPF party fold, parliamentary secretary for irrigation and flood control, geology and mining, Yanthungo Patton Thursday expressed optimism that their merger would strengthen the NPF party and ensure stability to the DAN government under the leadership of chief minister, Neiphiu Rio.
The NCP legislators announced their decision to merge with the NPF party on January 12.
Briefing media persons at his residence at Duncan Bosti Dimapur, Patton said the merger showed the legislators’ confidence in Rio’s leadership. On the comment made by secretary general North East NCP, Neiba Ndang about the merger, Patton opined that NCP might be intact in the state but when its legislators came together with NPF, they would be able to drag party workers along with them.
“There should not be any misunderstanding and when these two are with us, they would tackle the issue”, said Patton. Patton who won the 2008 assembly election on BJP tickets, also merged with the NPF in 2009. “Like the state BJP, when we merged with the NPF, 80% of BJP party workers came along with us. So there should not be any problem.”
While welcoming the two legislators, Patton appreciated Dr. Chumben Murry for his decision.
