Practice and promote culture: Azo

Kuki community on Monday celebrated Mimkut festival at Ahthibung local ground with minister for health and family welfare, Kuzholuzo as the chief guest and secretary, mission director, T. Limsong, IAS as the chief host.
Extending Mimkut greetings to the community, Azo called upon Kuki people to preserve their culture and traditions as it was the only way one could identify their identity.
He said one should practice and promote culture and traditions in the right manner as Christians.
He also explained that programs and policies of government was being brought at the door-step of the people so that people understood the policies and programs and co-operate with the government to bring development and progress to the state.
Chairman, Mimkut celebration committee, T. Lamkhothang, while giving a short speech on the significance of Mimkut festival said it was a post harvest festival of Kuki people.
He explained it was a day of thanksgiving to the Almighty for the unfailing harvesting gift to Kukis and was an occasion where rich and the poor, young and old share their emotions and celebrate Mimkut together.
President, Zeliang Officers Association, Nagaland, Pausui Zelaing called upon Kukis and people of Peren district to work together and be at par with the rest of the advanced districts in the state.
Earlier, Chief of Peillhang village, Laljakhup Singson traditionally declared the Mimkut festival open.
Welcome address was proposed by President, Kuki Inpi Nagaland, Asat Doungel and vote of thanks delivered by Alet Hangsing.
Highlights of the formal program included cultural presentations by various cultural troupes from different villages around Ahthibung and Mimkut song.
A special seminar on mother and child care and Immunization and impact of climate change in agriculture was also conducted as a part of Mimkut festival.
