Nagaland Garo Tribal Council (NGTC) Dimapur, Garo Studnets’ Union Nagaland Zone (GSUNZ) and Garo Students’ Union Karbi Anglong Zone (GSUKAZ) have condemned the alleged assault of one Garo student by CRPF personnel “without any rhyme or reason” at a tea stall opposite to CRPF Group Centre Khatkhati on January 13 at around 9 am.
The three Garo organisations in a joint statement said that the victim was waiting for his elder brother who was attending a written test for recruitment into the CRPF at the CRPF Group Centre when he was suddenly attacked by some CRPF personnel with sticks. When the victim questioned their act, the CRPF personnel “got wild and took him inside the CPRF Group Centre at the command of an officer and started beating him more mercilessly,” the Garo organizations alleged.
It also alleged that the victim was given a “third degree torture” inside the Centre as a result of which he fainted. The CPRF personnel were then ordered to take the victim five km away from the Centre on the way to CCI Bokajan. The Garo organisations said that the victim managed to give a phone call to his mother who arrive at the site and took him for treatment.
Condemning the “thoughtless and cruel actions” of the CRPF personnel, the three Garo organisations appealed the law enforcing agencies or authorities to bring the erring CRPF personnel and officers to book at the earliest and award befitting punishment. The joint statement was signed by NGTC president Tarun Chandra A. Momin, GSUNZ general secretary, Nathan Momin and GSUKAZ president, Anderson Sangma.
