Two government schools in Imphal were set on fire Tuesday by agitating students, who had been demanding an end to government impasse with teachers.
CC Higher Secondary School, Imphal and Government Model Higher Secondary School were set on fire by students today in between 10:30 am to 11.30 am.
Students targeted the school buildings as government failed to address their demand for resumption of classes which had been disturbed for the past one month since the teachers went on fast-unto-death stir demanding adoption of revised pay bands recommended by the 6th pay commission.
Meanwhile following the incidents, armed security personnel have been detailed in and around the government schools. Patrolling by the Police Commandos in the periphery of the schools has also been intensified to thwart escalation of students’ bid, a senior police officer said.
In another unrelated incident, two towers of Aircel company in Kumbi area of Manipur’s Bishnupur district was torched by a mob today.
