: Entrepreneurship development programme in food processing for farmers of Mon district was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Phek in coordination with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mon and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dimapur.
Farmers in Nagaland produces variety of fruits and vegetables but due to pitiable transportation, storage facility and poor marketing network, about 40 percent of the produce get wasted.
Entrepreneurship development programme was inaugurated by Dr. Chandan Rajkhowa, Director, National Research Centre on Mithun.
During his inaugural address, he stressed that it was the need of hour to develop the capabilities of the youth so they could start their own enterprise.
Dr. B. R. Singh, principal scientist, ICAR Research Complex for NER, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani, expressed concern over the huge loss and encouraged the youth to start their own units. The units will not only provide them gainful employment opportunity but also pave the way to increase self sufficiency in this sector.
Meanwhile, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mon selected 25 desirous youth for the programme and brought them to Dimapur.
The training programme was conducted at NRC on Mithun where hands on training were provided by Keni, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dimapur.
The participants were taken to common facility centre, Medziphema to show them how the federation of the SHGs prepare various products and market them under a trade name.
Participants learned the process of drying and pulverizing of ginger and turmeric and also prepared pineapple flaks, a desiccated product of pineapple.
The programme was concluded on February 12 and certificates were awarded to all participants after the successful completion of the training.The programme was sponsored by ASSOCHAM, New Delhi.
