NHAK certified with ISO 9001:2008

Recognized for its quality management system and delivery standards, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) achieved a landmark on Tuesday when it was given the certification of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008. The ISO certificate was handed over to minister for health and family welfare Kuzholuzo Nienu by the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC).
Felicitating the staff of NHAK, Nienu said that NHAK had achieved a milestone for being the first ever hospital in Nagaland to be certified and recognized in international quality health care. He said the certification should inspire the staff to work with greater dedication so as to provide affordable and quality health care to the people, with the patients’ satisfaction as their primary goal. The minister expressed optimism that with teamwork, the hospital would maintain quality standard continually and also achieve higher standard.
NHSRC advisor, Dr. J.N. Sahay encouraged the state government to replicate the exercise of quality management and service to other health centres and hospitals in the state. He suggested that a nodal team be formed to enhance quality services in the hospitals so that primary health centres and sub-centres could also be certified with ISO in following years. He said while the NRHM and NHSRC support the centre of excellence, the NHAK should venture out building other centres of excellence.
Dr. Sahay also pointed out that the NHAK needed some repair and maintenance thaqt also demanded finance and resource aid. He appealed to the government to ensure that free medicines were being given to patients in the hospital. Stating that the ISO certification was a big responsibility to sustain the position, Dr. Sahay encouraged the working staff of the hospital to keep up with their efforts.
Delivering the keynote address medical superintendent NHAK, Dr. Vizolie Suokhrie said that the goal of NHAK was to develop the hospital into centre of excellence with quality health care to all the citizens in an affordable cost. With quality management system being undertaken and reviewed with certification, he said that the hospital has now in its plan of action included opening of physiotherapy unit, OT complex, OPD complex, radiotherapy unit, biotechnology department, comprehensive MCH centre, state institute of health and welfare etc.
The certification ceremony was attended by advisor IT&TE Vikho-o Yhoshü, doctors and staff of NHAK and well wishers. The ceremony was chaired by commissioner and secretary, health and family welfare, Menukhol John.
A request has been made to the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC) to give certification of ISO 9001:2008 to district hospital of Mon and sub-centre at Mopungchuket under Mokokchung district for their efficient health service management. Responding to NHSRC advisor Dr. J.N. Sahay’s suggestion to replicate the exercise of quality service certification, Menukhol John, commissioner and secretary health and family welfare pointed out the efficiency of how the hospital and sub-centre were running and offered visitation of the NHSRC team to the centres for verification. Menukhol told Nagaland Post that the two hospitals were functioning outstandingly.
