Though a vital means of transportation, when autos went off road on Wednesday following the brutal murder of an auto driver on Saturday, traffic was less congested and less noisy.
The Dimapur Auto Drivers Union (DADU) had called for the strike in protest against the killing and also demand that those involved in the Feb 13 murder including earlier three cases, should be identified and brought to book. Meanwhile police sources disclosed that some suspects have already been taken into custody and investigation was on.
Meanwhile, Dimapur District Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union (DDADU) has expressed gratitude to general public, members, volunteers, officers, advisors and branch offices for extending their support and cooperation towards its call for autorickshaw bandh in Dimapur today.
The union had called for bandh as a mark of respect to its slain member Pradip Singh, who was found murdered around Xelhoshe village, off Dimapur February 14.
In a statement, the DDADU president Akaho Kiba further appealed to law enforcing agencies to take up the matter seriously and speed up investigation.
Also, urging the authority responsible to take stern legal action against those involved, the union said it would not remain a “silent spectator” of such repeated act against the autorickshaw drivers but would take further course of action if there was no positive out come.
