Dimapur police achieved a breakthrough in connection with January 22,2011 Axis Bank robbery case in which three motor-cycle borne miscreants snatched away cash totalling Rs.26 lakh at gunpoint while the money was being loaded into the ATM kiosk in Purana Bazar.
Police got the lead after Inavi, the private security guard hired by the bank, spilled the beans.
A press release issued by Addl SP Watichujang disclosed that the breakthrough came after a well planned raid led by SPDO Dimapur Shouka carried out on the wee hours of Wednesday at Ikishe village. During the raid, police arrested the main accused Visheto from his residence while his accomplice Akaho managed to escape despite getting shot on his leg. Further, they also arrested Akaho’s wife, Bokali, who later turned out to be the sister of the accused private security guard, Inavi.
A total of approximately 13 lakhs were recovered in the raids. Rs. 4 lakhs was recovered from the residence of main accused Vishito while another Rs 8 lakhs approximately, hidden in a vessel under the kitchen floor, was recovered from Akaho’s residence. Police said more recoveries were expected and efforts were on to nab the injured accused Akaho.
Meanwhile, Dimapur police lauded the cooperation extended by the village council and residents of Ikishe village in arresting the accused and recovery of the motorcycle used during the crime.
