Expressing discontentment over irregularities of power supply in the state, especially during examinations, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today registered resentment with the state government for “limitless load shedding”, which it said was “unreceptive” to the studies of the students.
A statement jointly issued by NSF president Mutsikhoyo Yhobu assistant general secretary N.Ejanthung Ngullie questioned why the department was not prepared to provide the state’s required power in a small state like Nagaland, without outsize industries, as compared with the other states. Further, expressing dissatisfaction with power department’s position on limited availability of power, the NSF said load shedding has become necessity because of department’s negligence.
“The federation is annoyed about the available sources of power which is only 50% when Nagaland has enough internal power generation from Likimro hydro electric project and Doyang hydro electric project to meet the state’s requirement,” the NSF statement said.
Meanwhile, the federation demanded state government to immediately examine “pros and cons of the department’s failure” to provide required strength of power supply in the state.
It also appealed the state government to immediately commence the “long pending proposal” for the power project at Dzunki 1, Dzunki 2 and Dikhu, which it claimed was offered by the ministry of power, adding it would be beneficial and available sources for power generation in the state.
