VDBs role needed for overall dev: RD

Parliamentary Secretary Rural Development (RD), SIRD and REPA, S. Pangnyu Phom said Kohima district should set an example for rest of the Nagas.
Inaugurating the VDB silver jubilee memorial rest house at Kithu (Peducha/Mengujuma), constructed by Kohima Block VDB association on Wednesday, Pangnyu Phom opined that Kohima should set an example, so that other districts would follow suit.
Describing Kohima as the window of Nagaland, Pangnyu said villages and persons in this part of the state were most privileged because they have access to good facilities as compared to other backward districts.
Appreciating the role of Angami Youth Organization (AYO) campaign to protect the environment, he urged upon VDB’s to support AYO’s campaign and called for complete ban on jungle burning.
Further he cited a resolution adopted in 2009 during VDB’s general conference, where it was adopted that all villages in the state would impose total ban of jungle burning.
He also called upon VDB’s to support and protect the officials of the department and help the department in order to bring an overall development in the villages.
While congratulating the Kohima Block VDB Association for their project in benefiting of the Nagas, he expressed gratitude to the land donors – Peducha/Mengujuma village and all the departmental staff involved in the project.
Earlier Pangnyu also inaugurated the VDB guest house Peducha and Agri Link Road Dziijaku.
In his short address, Shetoyi. MLA, chairman NHHDC appealed the Angami’s and Chakhesang’s to stop jungle burning, adding it has severally affected the people and the environment.
He also said RD was the only department meant for the grass-root and the closet friend of the rural people.
He further went on to add funds provided by the department should be used properly for the development of rural areas.
Commissioner and Secretary RD V. Sakhrie, emphasized on the need to have unity, cooperation and understanding so that good things can be done and achieved for the all round development of the society.
He also reminded the gathering to keep pace with the fast changing world.
Stressing on the need to have a visionary leader with positive attitude, and ready to serve the society with positive thinking, he said the VDB’s should judiciously utilize funds provided by the rural development department for the overall all development for grass-root level.
Director RD Mestubo Jamir, likened RD as the father and VDB the son and felt that people should not misconstrue or have misconception on the functioning on the RD department.
He also called upon the people to come forward, support and give suggestion to the department.
Further he stressed the need to protect the environment and go for plantation drive for economic prosperity and appreciated the AYO’s drive on conservation.
In his welcome address, Viu Belho president Kohima Block VDB association said it was a great day for the people as the rest house finally became a reality and thanked the land donors of Peducha/Mengujuma.
He disclosed that in future, the area could be converted into a park/hotel and a demonstration garden and also sought more funds from the rural development department.
Earlier, the function was chaired by P. Koza, BDO Kohima, invocation prayer by Peciivilie Kruneilie, pastor Peducha Baptist Church, folk songs by VDB Peducha and VDB Kohima village and vote of thanks by Vitsalhou Kesiezie, chairman, Mengujuma village council.
