Naga Council Dimapur has lauded Dimapur Police for cracking the Axis Bank ATM theft of `26 lacs at Purana Bazar Dimapur on January 22.
Lauding the proficiency of police officers and team entrusted with the case for tenaciously hunting down the case and recovering `13 lacs so far, the Council stated there was hardly any ATM thefts in other cities (the last known ATM theft was on HSBC ATM at Calcutta some 14 years back). However the Council went on to add that ATM facility being fairly new in the state, appeared to have tempted local predators to take a shot at them with impunity, the first being at Kohima.
Reminding Banks to ensure security arrangement for transfer or replenishment of cash to be made fool-proof, the Council on the other hand lamented on attachment of just two guards for transfer and replenishment of amount to the tune of `26 Lacs at the time of theft as inadequate and poor judgment on the part of concerned Bank when the town was up in arms against rampant extortion, kidnapping and murder, “all for money”.
“Special security beyond standard arrangement should be requisitioned from police as and when higher amounts are to be transferred if Banks are to gain confidence of their valued customers and avoid inviting designs”, added the Council.
