: Against the backdrop of China’s rapid military modernisation in Tibet, Defence Minister AK Antony will visit the northeastern states for two days from Friday to review the security situation and infrastructure developments ordered there by the government.
Antony will be accompanied on the trip by the army chief, General VK Singh and Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar.
“Defence Minister AK Antony will be going on a two-day visit to the northeast beginning tomorrow to review the security situation there and the progress of infrastructure development,” a defence ministry spokesperson said in New Delhi on Thursday.
Antony will be visiting Rangapahar military station in Nagaland, Tezpur and Chabua in Assam, Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh and Leimakhong in Manipur during the visit.
Under the Rangapahar-based 3 Corps, a new mountain division with about 15,000 troops has been raised to boost the army’s mountain warfare capabilities.
NE, J&K separatists misusing Facebook
PTI Adds: Defence minister AK Antony Thursday acknowledged that separatists in North-East and Jammu and Kashmir are “misusing” social networking sites and said “proper corrective action” will be taken. Responding to queries of mediapersons on “misuse” of social networking sites like Facebook by the separatists, the minister said, “We know people are misusing these but at the same time we are not going to take any hasty decision.”
He refused to comment on limiting the access of social networking sites in the states where the services are being misused. “We will see, nothing has been decided now,” he said. Antony said “proper corrective action” will be taken after ascertaining the whole issue.
