The award was handed over by Tarun Gogoi, chief minister of Assam on behalf of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Memorial Trust, amidst a gallery of prominent people. To celebrate Niketu’s achievement, the people of Khonoma organized a felicitation programme on February 16 considering that such an award coming from the biggest neighbouring community was of great significance. In this regard, the people of Khonoma have thanked Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Memorial Trust for honouring one of their most respected members with the prestigious award. The people of Khonoma felt the award came at a time when Nagas were under the notion that they were surrounded by “not so friendly or supportive neighbours”. They added that Iralu has brought laurels in bagging the prestigious award to not only to Khonoma but the entire Naga community.
