Antony visits 3 Corps Rangapahar

Union defence minister AK Antony arrived Dimapur Friday morning in a special air force plane and flew by chopper to 3 Corps Head Quarters.
He was accompanied by Defence secretary Pradeep Kumar, army chief, Gen. VK Singh, GOC Eastern Command Lt Gen Bikram Singh and other officials. Mr Antony will also be visiting Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur during his two -day visit to the Northeastern states.
At the 3 Corps Head Quarters, Antony was closeted with army brasses who briefed him about the security situation. He is halting for the night at the Rangapahar Military Station, Dimapur.
Antony will depart Dimapur Saturday morning for Itanagar and then to Imphal.
It maybe mentioned that under the Rangapahar-based 3 Corps, a new mountain division with about 15,000 troops has been raised to boost the army’s mountain warfare capabilities.
Against the backdrop of China’s rapid military modernization in Tibet, defence minister AK Antony is visiting the north east to review the security situation and infrastructure developments ordered in the region by the government during his two-day meetings with army brasses beginning Friday.
