: Sekrenyi festival 2011 would be celebrated under the sponsorship of Angami Public Organization on February 25 at Khouchiezie (Local ground, Kohma) on the theme “Sanctification of the body, soul and spirit”.
In a release, APO adviser and convener, publicity committee Mhiesizokho Zinyü said traditionally, Sekrenyi festival was a time of cleansing all ill-fortunes, sins and guilt of the year past with holy water so as to begin the new year afresh.
Sekrenyi is a time to take stock of the year passed by, and a time to look ahead with a new conscience and a renewed sense of freedom and confidence.
Sekrenyi 2011 will be a time of festivity and social event, rather than religious activity as in the animistic past. In spite of a large majority of Angami people having become Christians, the APO still retains the name Sekrenyi as a legacy of tradition and observes the festival as a time of social event and cultural celebration every year.
Sekrenyi 2011 would be a time for cultural celebration for Angami people to display their colorful and cultural finery and traditional heritage through cultural processions, rallies, dances and songs.
It is expected that the festival would also be a time to boost cultural tourism to a great extent in this increasingly globalized world.
