Sekrenyi 2011, the festival of the Angamis will be celebrated on February 25 at Khuochiezie, Kohima local ground under the theme “Sanctification of the body, soul and spirit”.
The Angami Public Organization on Tuesday invited all Naga tribes and heads of departments to the grand celebration.
Briefing the media at Hotel Japfü, APO president Kekhriengulie Linyü said Sekrenyi festival would be a grand celebration of gathering of all four Angami regions- northern, southern, western and Chakhro.
Speaking on the significance of the festival, the president said Sekrenyi does not hold its ritual significance as before but is being celebrated to revive cultural traditions of the Angamis, especially for the younger generation.
Dwelling on the theme, advisor of APO Mhiesizokho Zinyü stated Sekrenyi was a time for cleansing of ill fortune of the year gone by and restarting of a new year with freedom from guilt. “A time to sanctify the body, which would make the soul strong and ultimately lead to contact with God”, he stated.
The APO further informed that in the following years, celebration would be organized and hosted by various Angami zones on rotation.
The celebration on Friday would be graced by M.C. Konyak, minister for Forest and Excise, as chief guest; tribal hoho presidents as honoured guests.
Songs, exhibition of indigenous games, cultural traditions and cultural feast will mark the festivity.
