1 killed, 10 injured in road mishap

In a delayed report, at least one person was killed and ten persons seriously injured when a Tata Sumo in which they were travelling, from Dimapur to Kohima, lost control and plunged into 100 feet gorge ahead of Pherima at around 7 a.m. Saturday. According to Assam Rifles, 11 passengers were travelling in the ill-fated Tata Sumo.
“Two teams of 20 Assam Rifles from Ghaspani and Piphema along with the medical officer and ambulance rushed to the spot and carried out rescue and relief operations,” a defense statement said. After two hours of rescue operation, AR personnel rescued ten seriously injured persons, which included eight ladies and one dead body.
All the injured were administered with first aid on the spot and injured were treated at the battalion hospital. The injured were later transferred to CHC, Medziphema and civil hospital, Dimapur, the defense release said. Later, the police from Medziphema joined in to carry out investigation.
