NIMH promoting awareness on mental disability

A workshop for media persons on issues relating to mental disability was conducted on Wednesday at deputy commissioner’s conference hall.
The workshop was organized by the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (NIMH), Secunderabad under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It may be added that the team has been actively engaged in promoting awareness on mental disability in Dimapur for the past few days. Resources persons for the workshop included a nine-member faculty team and students from the institute.
The workshop was conducted with a focus on promoting awareness issues relating to health and education for people with mental disabilities and maintains an inclusive society with people with mental disabilities as contributing members of the society. During the workshop, resource persons highlighted various Acts and schemes relating to health and education for people with mental disabilities.
While pointing out that there are no special or set curriculums for people with mental disabilities, the resource persons pointed out that it depended on the learning level of a person and the requirements or conditions of a community.
Meanwhile, the same workshop will be conducted for Anganwadi workers on Thursday, policy makers and district administration on February 25 and Medziphema on February 26.
