Observing that variety of timber-based industrial units and other subsidiary units were mushrooming in Dimapur, the state government today issued a stern order directing all unauthorized units, which do not possess proper approval from the authority responsible, to close down.
An official order issued by the forest department, forest divisional office, Dimapur noted that numerous timber-based industrial units and other subsidiary units, such as saw mill, moulding beat units, sawn timber sale depots, stone crusher units, bamboo and “balli” post sale depots, and sand & stone chips sale depots were mushrooming without proper approval/clearance from the responsible authority.
The department, however, has directed the proprietors of genuine units, operating under the licence of industrial department, to apply for the forest trade licence in the office of the divisional forest officer, Dimapur with relevant documents for subsequent processing.
According to Section 9 of Transit Rules under Nagaland Forest Act, 1968, no person is allowed to establish saw mill or saw pit in the state except with the previous sanctions of the state government, the notification stated.
It also pointed out that Supreme Court, in response to writ petition (c) No.202 of 1995, ordered that wood-based industries approved by the high power committee (HPC) should be located only in the industrial estates as notified by the state government.
