Pochury Students’ Union (PSU) Friday expressed resentment and displeasure over the new job reservation policy of the Nagaland cabinet wherein Pochury tribe was allotted a “meager” 2% out of the total 37% while two of “recognised tribes” were given 4% each and six Eastern Naga tribes 25%. Asserting that the new reservation policy has discriminated Pochury tribe in terms of percentage allotment, the PSU president Vikuolie Jangri assembly speaker Dahil Fithu, in a statement, appealed to the state government to address their grievances on time to avoid any “undesirable episode of agitation” by the aggrieved Pochury people.
To deliberate on the issue, PSU convened an emergency consultative meeting Feb 25 in the conference hall of Pochury Hoho, Kohima, they said adding members of all Pochury frontal organisations, local unit representatives of the PSU, senior citizens and number of students attended the meet.
“Members voiced their resentment and displeasure over the decision of the Nagaland Cabinet which the house felt the decision was taken without the applied criteria into consideration that determines backwardness,” they said. Meanwhile, the PSU said that the house has decided to go for any form of agitation if justice was not delivered.
