Strong public resentment has become visible in different quarters of Karbi Anglong district due to non transfer of some government officials over a prolonged period of time, some as long as 15-20 years.
Highly placed officials of major departments like Agriculture, PWD, Food & Civil Supplies (FCS), Medical, DIPR, Fishery and District Administration are occupying their seats without being asked to perform their jobs in other places of the state. Certain officers sitting at the helm of affairs were allegedly extracting huge sum of money meant for development of general people and major disputes could be seen in these departments centering them. One particular officer of Agriculture department, Hamren sub-division has completed more than 20 years of service without being transferred while an engineer serving in the Fishery department at Diphu has been here for more than 22 years, acting as overall in-charge of the department. Questions were also raised about another DIPR officer who has been working here for many years without getting disturbed, whereas a FCS officer would be completing ten years of service in various capacities in the same office itself.
At a juncture when hectic transferring of officers is taking place in view of the state assembly elections, only time would tell as to whether these officers would finally be handed over their transfer notice from Karbi Anglong. When this happens, the public can expect more transparent governance.
