Barely a day after displaced minority residents of Kangpokpi, Sapermaina and Motbung area of Senapati district returned to their homes, hundreds of people marched out in a demonstration against kidnapping of a boy for ransom on Saturday.
14-year old Sagar Prashad of Kangpokpi was kidnapped by suspected KCP (MC) militants for a ransom demand of `50,000 on February 22. Decrying the kidnapping for ransom, people of different communities residing in the areas marched in hundreds at a protest rally on the streets in Kangpokpi sub-divisional headquarters Saturday.
Various slogans condemning the kidnappings, particularly of the minor boy, were displayed during the rally, which was kicked off from St. Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi and returned to the same place after surrounding the area.
They urged the militant group responsible for the kidnapping to release the boy unharmed without any condition and not to break the peace and tranquility of the people of the area.
It may be mentioned that Kuki outfit, KNF (P) earlier vented out its anger for kidnapping of people for ransom from their “operational area” and issued a “quit notice” to minority residents of the Kangpokpi, Sapermaina and Motbung area. Subsequently, about 50 families were displaced and took shelter at Sekmai since February 24.
It was only when the KNF appealed and government assurance of security, the displaced went back to their respective homes yesterday.
