Tenyimi students’ union Mokokchung today celebrated their first Sekrenyi cum cultural celebration here at the town hall under the theme “Our Culture, Our Identity”.
The celebration was graced by deputy commissioner Mokokchung Lithrongla G Chishi as the chief guest. Lithrongla in her speech appreciated the initiatives and effort taken of Tenyimi students in organizing the festival celebration. By celebrating such festivals, the DC said it would go a long way in bringing about unity and love and cultural revival not just among Tenyimis but among different tribes.
She lamented that Nagas have a rich tradition and culture, yet it was fading away as many have forgotten how Nagas came about and often fail to appreciate the culture and traditions left behind by the forefathers. She said while every ethnic group, tribe, country around the world was trying to revive its culture, the Nagas have been naturally endowed with a rich culture naturally, adding “We just have to take an extra effort to show the world and stake the claim of our rich culture and tradition”. She further aspired that the festival would be a time for purification, sanctification and a time for unifying all Nagas.
Earlier in the program, president of Tenyimi students’ union Heutwalung James Hau delivered the presidential address as well as the welcome speech.
Folk dance and songs were presented by Suyim Cultural Club, and Tenyimi students of NU Lumami and Tenyimi students of ICIT Mokokchung. A brief exhortation was also delivered by Kesonyu Yhome IAS SDO (C) Mokokchung.
The program was chaired by Kedoroko Casavi.
