Pangnyu urges Peli No 12 to uphold legacy

With traditional flavor and gaiety, the Peli No 12, L. Khel, Kohima Village on Saturday celebrated its silver jubilee coinciding with Sekrenyi festival, the premier festival of the Angami Nagas.
To mark its silver jubilee, Peli No 12 also erected 18 monoliths and a traditional sport arena at Tsieramia Chapru, below T.M Government High School Kohima, unveiled by chief guest S. Pangnyu Phom, parliamentary secretary Rural Development and REPA
In his address, Pangnyu said the celebration of silver jubilee of Peli No 12 L. Khel Kohima village was a milestone, besides recognizing and acknowledging it as a benchmark of success.
He also added the occasion was a pride of the Peli (Group) to gift the village, community such a landmark.
Pointing out that Peli No 12 belonged to an age group ranging from 30 to 35 years, Pangnyu said it represented a generation of sound reasoning, good health and fertile imagination and stated this age group was basically considered as soldiers of the village.
He said the vision shared by the group to the village will be the benchmark of excellence and urged upon officers, intellectuals and leaders of the group to keep the legacy.
He also lauded the Peli No 12 for coming up with a traditional sports arena and hoped Nagas will replicate it to promote traditional sports.
“Such promotion and upkeep of our culture helps in rooting deeper relationship with one another in creating awareness of one’s traditional identity and in keeping the spirit of sportsmanship alive” he added.
Citing this year’s Sekrenyi theme “Purification of mind, soul and spirit”, Pangnyu said the theme was most befitting for the Peli No 12 to sanctify themselves in order to have higher and brighter vision for the village community.
While urging the young people to work towards grandeur and goodness of human relationship on this significant day, he also congratulated the Peli No 12 and wished them success in all their future endeavors.
In his presidential address Kethosituo Mepfhüo gave a brief history of the Peli No 12 and extended the silver jubilee greetings coinciding with Sekrenyi.
Earlier, the function was chaired by Dzüvinguzo Mepfhüo, elder’s blessing delivered by Neivose Dzüvichü, head GB Kohima village, and traditional song by Ruokuo Suokhrie and friends.
Meanwhile the guest of honour director rural development Metsubo Jamir inaugurated the open wrestling championship which witnessed 25 wrestler’s participants during the day long celebration.
