The month long impasse between the state government and Federation of College Teachers’ Association Manipur (FECTAM) finally came an end on Sunday. The college teachers called-off their cease-work strike, which were to commence from Monday, after an assurance was given by the government. However, the school teachers continue with their protest.
The FECTAM today announced the suspension of all kinds of stir including the sit-in protest in the college premises and cease-work strike, which was scheduled to commence from yesterday.
FECTAM convener, M Lokendro in a press conference said that the decision to suspend all types of stir was taken following an assurance given by SPF spokesperson minister N Biren that government will consider their demands.
The Federation of College Teachers’ Association Manipur had already started staging sit-in protest to warn the government had they failed to consider their demands by Monday.
The decisions of the college teachers have given a relief to the state government, who were under pressure from the students of colleges even when the impasses continue between the state government and the Federation of College Teachers’ Association Manipur.
The teachers of government high and higher secondary schools were on fast unto death since last month. It may be mentioned that more than 200 striking teachers were put behind bars even the government had stuck to their guns.
