Addressing the gathering of School Peace Club leaders of Dimapur, the keynote speaker, Parish priest, Holy Cross Church, Rev. Fr. Chacko Karinthayil said education for peace permeates all aspects of school life with implication for learners, teachers, administrators and extended beyond the school to society as a whole.
He was speaking at school Peace Club leaders’ capacity building programme organized by Peace Channel.
Fr. Chacko elaborated that peace education was guided by principles of dignity, equality, liberty, justice, responsibility, security, solidarity, and democracy.
“It promotes right values and attitudes among the young people and enhances the skills and required for the right development of the human beings to live a meaningful and productive life”, he said. He further stated the end product of peace education was formation of active world citizens ready to embrace the responsibility for building harmonious, just and peaceful world.
The capacity building programme progressed with input session on leadership, volunteerism and Peace Channel activities by Kishor Dass.
Elaborating on the qualities of a good leader, he said integrity, honesty, magnanimity, humility, openness, creativity, fairness and assertiveness are required to develop into a good leader.
The programme concluded with peace celebration in groups and the participants were led into evaluation and action plan by Jiji Joseph wherein leaders were apprised of the activities to be under taken by the Clubs at school level. 50 students and teachers from 10 educational institutions in Dimapur attended the programme
