Following reports in some Assamese dailies that the IRB, NSCN etc, were involved in “incidences” at Assam-Nagaland border, Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) members visited the area to ascertain facts.
According to BPCC president B.P. Bora and vice president Imsu Jamir, BPCC team recently visited Tiru Hill areas of Assam-Nagaland border, where the “incidences” reportedly took place. They said the team called on local public leaders and members of All Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Union, and learnt that the government has taken “necessary actions to handle the situation”.
BPCC said the news report “appeared to be little inflated” and urged the media to “adhere certain amount of restrictions” in reporting on sensitive areas. It also appealed all responsible not to create “panic and nuisance”.
