They wear the same uniform except for the different badge and perform the same duty, but the state Home Guard personnel were but a neglected and discriminated lot in the state today.
The Home Guard personnel, one of the main workforce of the state in maintaining providing security, maintaining law and order and traffic regulation are today at the receiving end. While the salaries of other state government employees has been enhanced with the implementation of the 6th ROP, the daily wages of the Home Guard personnel on duty were not revised and they continue to receive their daily wages @ Rs.120/- per day or Rs.3600/- per month.
With the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and their meager earning of Rs 3600/- per month, many Home Guard personnel have expressed their inability to even maintain their family basic needs let alone their children education. T. Angami, a Home Guard constable while talking to this correspondent wished that the state government take note of the plight of the Home Guard personnel and consider for enhancement of the daily wages to at least Rs.200/- per day.
“Any police personnel, be it AB (arms branch), UB (unarmed branch) or Traffic, we perform the same duty but we were so much discriminated when it comes to earning.”
Moreover, being paid in terms of daily wages, profession tax is being deducted from the meager amount of the earnings of a Home Guard personnel, Angami regretted.
Earlier, the same Home Guard Volunteers were paid wage of Rs 85/- per day which was enhanced to Rs.120/- sometimes in 2009.
The Home Guard personnel were presently performing the duties of Civil Defense, Traffic, static duty such as providing security to offices, Banks and house guards to the VVIP and VIPs in different part of the state.
