: Department of horticulture, Mokokchung on February 10 organized field training on citrus rejuvenation at Yimchalu village (Sungratsu), Mokokchung.
Around 100 farmers attended the training.
The training was graced by Sentiyanger, commissioner and secretary, horticulture and Dr. N. Benjong Aier, mission director, horticulture.
A brief highlight on the departmental activities was given by Dr. N. Benjong Aier.
The keynote address for the purpose of the training was delivered by Imrongtemsu, district horticulture officer, Mokokchung where he highlighted the importance of rejuvenation carried out to save citrus trees from declining, which has become a serious problem due to use of different chemical source of nutrients and the need for construction of half moon terracing for retaining the nutrients and moisture.
It may be mentioned that due to inadequate knowledge by farmers on technical cultivation practices, farmers are losing a lot in terms of economy.
Practical demonstration on preparation and application of Bordeaux mixture, fertilizers and micro nutrients on a calendar of operation was demonstrated by the district field staff.
Farmers expressed satisfaction for the timely dissemination of knowledge by the department and also expressed gratitude to the commissioner and secretary, mission director and district horticulture officer, Mokokchung.
