Money bag snatchers gang busted

In a major breakthrough, Dimapur police busted a well organized gang who were involved in several cases of snatching money bags from unwary victims.
However, police managed to arrest only one of the accused, Avinash Singh (23), while other members of the gang identified as Kamal Singh (25), Pinto Roy (21) and Akash Singh (23) absconded by the time police raided the hotel from where they were operating.
Avinash was arrested by police near SBI Bazar branch while he was planning another robbery along with with one of his accomplices on March 5 last.
During the interrogation, Avinash disclosed that all four of them had come to Dimapur on January and started to operate from Hotel Priyanka, Sukanjan under Bokajan. The modus operandi of the gang was to find out soft targets that were depositing or withdrawing huge amounts of cash from banks. After locating the victim, one of the gang members relay the message to his other accomplices through mobile phone. Immediately as and when the opportune arose, the remaining gang members used to snatch the cash from the unsuspecting victim and flee into Assam in a black Bajaj Pulsar bike.
Further, Avinash admitted that their gang had snatched around Rs 11 lakhs, three ATM cards and one mobile phone from their victims between February and March. Some of the prominent ones included snatching of Rs 1 lakh from a lady at Notun Bosti, Rs 2.5 lakhs from another lady near ICICI bank and Rs 2.5 lakhs from a lady outside Vijaya bank. It may be noted that the gang used to target mostly ladies for carrying out their crime.
Meanwhile, police added that efforts were on to arrest the absconding members of the gang.
