The Peoples Alliance for Peace Agreement (PAPA), the conglomeration of 64 political and social organizations has emerged as the main opposition of Congress in the sixth scheduled Karbi Anglong district. The organization, constituted on the initiative of United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) to pressurize both Delhi and Dispur for signing agreement with UPDS, has now taken the role of main opposition party, rather a pressure group.
After enrolling all the political parties and organizations active in the district, PAPA is now busy eroding Congress bastions. The development has become a cause of concern for the ruling Congress who, at the initial stage, did not take PAPA to be a factor to bother.
The spokesperson of PAPA on March 15 last announced at Diphu that around 177 families, once considered as hard core congress supporters of Bokajan legislative assembly constituency have shifted their allegiance to PAPA.
Without mentioning any unseen factors, arithmetically, the combined support of ASDC, CPI (ML) could be a lethal combination to upset Congress game plan. This time both the parties have stood behind PAPA with their total support, neither ASDC nor CPI (ML) have filed candidates for this election.
