Declaring 2011 as the ‘Year of Cleanliness’, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS) Mokokchung kicked off the cleanliness campaign with a formal launching program organised on March 11 with SP Mokokchung Bendang Lemtur as the chief guest.
Lemtur called upon the students to be “Cleanliness Warriors” so they would wage a war against litter. He said plastics were the main offenders, which has been posing a major source of environmental hazard and pollution.
He also encouraged students to be pure in thought and mind so they would become worthy students and citizens. Earlier, the chief guest unfurled the flag and unveiled a plaque bearing the theme and also released a white dove as a sign of peace and cleanliness.
The programme witnessed students taking a collective pledge to promote the cause of cleanliness and work for the well being of fellow citizens.
Meanwhile, QMHSS as part of ongoing cleanliness campaign organized a poster painting competition from students for class I to X.
The competition evoked eager response from pupils who came up with innovative and brilliant ideas. The posters painted by youngsters revealed their deep understanding of the issue of cleanliness and their relationship with the environment.
