Cases of Right to Information (RTI) are pending in Meghalaya due to delay in appointing Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).
The post of CIC fell vacant after the retirement of G P Wahlang on March 3.
Applicants under the banner of the Shillong Municipal Manual Workers’ Union had filed an RTI application against the Shillong Municipal Board on the delay in disbursing arrears due to them since 2003.
The board’s public information officer did not reveal all the information which had been sought by the union, the employees alleged.
The applicants’ plea for justice would be further delayed if the CIC was not appointed, the union said.
‘’The delay in appointing a CIC shows the failure of the government to rightfully implement the RTI Act and this in turn has deprived justice to the people,’’ Angela Rangad of Meghalaya RTI Movement said.
