Congress party has slammed the DAN government for alleged corruption and misuse of funds meant for development of the state.
Speaking at the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Joint meeting 2011 at Congress Bhavan, Kohima on Friday, former Goa chief minister and Member Congress Working Committee (CWC) in-charge of Nagaland Luizinho Faleiro said that the present DAN government was riddled with corruption, nepotism, non- performance and empty coffers. On his maiden visit to the state, the CWC member also alleged that besides financial bankruptcy, there was totally bankruptcy in the functioning of administration and governances in the state. He claimed that the people of the state were not happy with the present government.
Stating that the Congress-led UPA government had allotted funds amounting to crores of rupees under various programmes such as SSA, MNREGA, NRHM and Modernization of Police Force, Faleiro said that the funds were “totally mis-utilized” by the DAN government. He urged the Congress party workers to extract information through RTI Act and to inform the public on the same.
Harping on the important role of opposition, he stressed the need to have unity and cooperation within the party. He reminded party workers that the people expected a lot from them and should therefore deliver goods to the people by playing the crucial role of an opposition and not let down the public. Faleiro hinted about plan to bring Congress president Sonia Gandhi to the state but urged upon the party in the state to gear up and strengthen the party organization at all levels.
CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi made a fervent appeal to all Congress leaders and workers to bury their past differences and work for common goal. Admitting difference among party leaders during the last three years, he said that the difference had given their opponents an edge. Tokheho said difference among the leaders and wrong selection of candidates dented the Congress’ chance to win the 2008 elections.
Congress MLA and NPCC president S. I. Jamir expressed gratitude to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for appointing Luizinho Faleiro to look after the affairs of Nagaland. He also expressed gratitude to Faleiro for visiting the state within a short time and hoped that Congress would attain new heights. The NPCC president said that the Congress party in the state was going through a bad phase but claimed that the spirit was high and would retain its glory again.
The function was chaired by NPCC vice president Nillo Rengma, invocation pronounced by Moba, Pastor Konyak Baptist Church Kohima and welcome address delivered by NPCC vice president, Khutovi. NPCC general secretary Supongmeren proposed vote of thanks. Meanwhile, the CWC member will meet the CLP, frontal chiefs, PCC, coordination committee and DCC presidents on Saturday at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
