Drawing attention to the proposal of changing the nomenclature of Dimapur, the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) Friday urged the Nagaland chief minister to retain the name of Dimapur as it was since many of their (Bodo) advocacies for political rights was based on the “historical facts” drawn from the city of Dimapur. Asserting that the issue of creation of separate state of Bodoland has been pending since decades, the ABSU leaders, in a memorandum to chief minister, said changing the present name of Dimapur with any other nomenclature would have far reaching consequences on them resulting into serious setback of their political movement.
Also, pointing out that there was thousands of Kacharis (Bodo-Kachari) living in Nagaland since time immemorial, particularly in and around Dimapur, the Bodo students said Kacharis have expressed their feeling of insecurity in many fronts – land, socio-economic, political, cultural etc.
“Hence, we request you to make an inclusive protection and development policy under your able leadership for the Kacharis (Bodo-Kachari) living in the state of Nagaland,” they stated, adding that Bodo-Kacharis living in Nagaland could also progress as any other tribe in the state.
“We hope that your dynamic leadership will be able to extend kind help in the stated lines,” the ABSU said.
