Keeping up with the theme of the event ‘Child Rights’, child poets from different schools whisked away the honors at the closing ceremony of the three-day 4th North East Poetry Festival Saturday at NEZCC complex Dimapur.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, NEZCC director Som Kamei affirmed on the need for joint efforts from all walks of the society towards ensuring that children’s rights were protected.
Kamei lauded organizers for conducting the event on an insightful theme and conveyed his appreciation that it had attracted many talented young minds. He called upon all to be sensitive and aware of not only their rights but others’ rights as well.
While lamenting that many people talked a lot at seminars, meetings etc., but does very little on what they advocated verbally, the chief guest also expressed hope that participants of the poetry festival would go to their respective places with a renewed pledge to highlight child’s rights extensively.
Out of a whopping total of 756 entries in poetry competition at the festival, 17 individuals received recognition awards while the best three awards for category-A (Classes 3-12) were given to Nemhokim Doungel, Hemali Awomi and Karuna Maheshwari; and best three awards for category-B were given to Ganglai Kamnu, group of Class-IX Sainik School and Suraj Kumar Jha. In drawing competition, 20 individuals out of 73 were given recognition awards, the best three for category-A (Classes 2-6) won by Lentilong, Chumben and Ruth and for category-B, Chayandeep, Sulito and Chinithung.
The event, with a special focus on children, was held on ‘Child Rights’ as a poetic expression to create awareness and sensitize parents, educators, social workers, NGOs, public leaders and children themselves on the rights of children.
