5.6-magniude quake jolts Pakistan

An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 jolted various parts of Punjab and upper regions of Pakistan Monday, a media report said.
The quake, which occurred at 2.55 p.m. (local time) shook various areas including Lahore, Islamabad, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Khyber Agency, Peshawar, Mohmand Agency, Swat, Kohat, Nausehra, Chitral, Mansehra, Bat Gram, and Kohistan in the upper region of the country besides areas in Punjab, Geo TV stated. The Met Department could not immediately confirm the quake’s epicentre.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar and other parts of the valley were also jolted by the quake, which as per an official measured 5.7 on the Richter scale, Monday afternoon.
Sonam Lotus, the director of the local weather office in Srinagar, told IANS: “An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale hit Srinagar and other parts of the valley at 3.19 p.m.
“The quake was of moderate intensity with its epicentre in the Hindukush region at latitude 36.5 degrees north and longitude 17.9 degrees east,” Lotus said.
