Ex-minister Khukivi dies

Former Nagaland minister Khukivi Awomi died Monday at Referral Hospital here after a prolonged illness. He was 60. He has left behind his wife, two sons and two daughters. His funeral service would be held March 22, 10 a.m. at his native (Surumi village).
Born on October 17, 1950 to late Khehevi Awomi and Ghuzhevi Chishi at Surumi village, late Khukivi Awomi started his political career in 1974 as an active member of United Democratic Party (UDF). Prior to his election to the Nagaland legislative assembly, late Khukivi Awomi was general secretary UDF Suruhuto area, president of NNDP Suruhuto area, central executive member UDF and president of BJP Zunheboto district.
He was elected to the NLA in the year 1989 from Suruhuto assembly constituency as NPC candidate. On June 20, 1990 he was appointed as minister of state for fisheries, labour & employment, art & culture and home guards.
He also served as members of Sumi Hoho & ENPO joint core committee and chairman of Dimapur Phughi Sumi Community from 2006 to 2010. Late Khukivi served as convenor of Nagaland tribal joint coordination committee till his demise.
