Kate Middleton and Prince William will leave the church after their wedding on the same carriage that had carried the prince’s parents, Princess Diana and Prince Charles.
The royal couple will ride in the 1902 State Landau after their Westminster Abbey marriage April 29 on their way to Buckingham Palace, just as William’s parents used it when they left St.Paul’s Cathedral on their big day, the Daily Express reported citing palace officials.
However, if the weather is “miserable”, the couple will travel in the Glass Coach, which both Diana and Sarah Ferguson used to go from Clarence House to their wedding ceremonies.
The horse-drawn Glass Coach, built in 1881, has a permanent roof. The 29-year-old Kate will, however, travel to the abbey in a car.
William, Kate, senior members of the royal family and Kate’s parents will travel in eight state cars to the abbey. Palace aides said the choice of carriages was made because they were the most commonly used at royal weddings, rather than as a tribute to Diana, but William does all he can to honour his mother’s memory.
Prince Harry, William’s best man, and Pippa Middleton, Kate’s maid of honour, will follow in two separate Ascot Landau carriages.
