Earth Hour on March 26

Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar said the state will observe “Earth Hour” on March 26 along with the rest of the world by switching off all lights from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
Addressing the 9th session of the 11th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Tuesday State Governor appealed to every Naga citizen to join in the noble venture by switching off all lights one hour from 8.30 pm on March 26.
Pointing to the recent disaster when fire broke out at the chief minister’s official residence in February 8, the Governor said the incident exposed our lack of preparedness in dealing with such disasters, especially large scale ones.
He said the February 8 incident should shake people out of their complacency and galvanise all responsible agencies to be prepared for disasters.
Towards preparedness, Nikhil said his government stood committed to devote more resources in term of men, material and money.
On the Global warming and the effects that is also being felt in Nagaland, the governor said that a consultative process is being initiated to prepare a State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) with the forest and environment department as the nodal department.
The action plan which will be ready in a few months, will address eight major sectors, namely energy, urban planning, water resources , livelihood, forestry, agriculture, heath and climate change studies.
