Chishi releases book on ‘Sümi kumlah pasu’

MLA and former chief minister K.L Chishi Wednesday released a book titled “Sümi kumlah pasu”, penned by late Gen. Zuheto K. Swu, at a function organised here by family members of late general.
The book contains a detailed account of Sümi revolutionaries’ role in the Naga national movement.
Speaking at the function, the MLA lauded the efforts of late Gen. Zuheto who had put in his time and energy in preparing a book that would prove useful to younger generation. MLA Chishi, who read the book, said the book has brought in him a sense of pride to be a Sümi, adding that the younger generation should be proud of what the predecessors have contributed towards national cause.
Stating that writing a book was not an easy task, the MLA said sometimes there were occasions where some people criticize the good works of others, added those were the characters of lethargic people.
Chishi further extended his good wishes and donated `1 lakh towards the next publication. The “war diary”, also authored by late Gen Zuheto, which is yet to be published.
“Sümi kumlah pasu” was written with an objective to make younger generation aware of the role and contribution of Sümis in Naga national movement.
The book has elaborated in detail on how Sümi revolutionaries brought reformation in some Eastern Naga areas, which were then infested with social evils and practices.
Besides, the book also covers the areas on how the Sümi revolutionaries put their efforts in identifying minor tribes, in parts of present Nagaland state and Burma, and unlimitedly recognized as Naga tribes.
Earlier, delivering a short speech, “Brig” and ex-2IC of BSF Tokhuvi Tuccu talked in detail the life he had spent with Gen. Zuheto and struggle they underwent during the struggle for Naga national movement.
Meanwhile, delivering vote of thanks, the wife of late general, Khevili Zuheto Swu expressed gratitude to all for extending their support.
Late Zuheto K. Swu, was the former General of FGN and DIG (Retd) of BSF. The late Gen, who passed away August 20, 2008, also authored another book ‘Sümi Xu Ghili’. He joined the Naga national movement in 1955 and participated in the process of the formation of the FGN, where he rose to the rank general adjutant of general headquarters and officiating commander-in-chief, Naga Army, in 1967.
Later he was compelled to severe ties with the FGN and then join the then newly launched Revolutionary Government of Nagaland (RGN). Thereafter he proceeded with talks with Centre, and in 1973, Zuheto joined the mainstream and began his career in the BSF where he served for 22 years.
