Dimapur district observed ‘World TB Day’ rally on March 24, organised by Greenwood Higher School NCC and Health Clubs with chief medical officer, Dr. Sukhato Sema as chief guest. Dr. Sukhato highlighted the tuberculosis control programme in the district and shared how the student community could help in creating awareness to the masses to avail free diagnosis and treatment of TB under RNTCP.
The chief guest flagged off the rally at the school premises and the students marched up to the Clock tower junction holding placards and banners with important key messages.
KIPHIRE: ‘World TB Day’ was observed on March 24 at chief medical office, conference hall Kiphire under the theme “On the move against TB”.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tali, district TB officer, Kiphire briefed on RNTCP scenario and achievements in the district. He also highlighted that the main aim would be the challenge to reach the un-reached areas in the district and appealed the members and field workers present to give their full support and cooperation in carrying out the task.
Exhorting the gathering, Dr. I. Sungit Jamir said to make a difference; even marginal participation could make a big difference in tackling and preventing TB.
He stressed on working out a strategy with positive outcome to fight against TB and encouraged members to spread the message on TB, its effects and preventive measures that TB is 100% curable.
Dr. Kibang, district immunization officer spoke on the causes of TB, its detection and preventive measures.
He expressed that the ever increasing number of people infected with TB and that a TB patient on medication should take complete course treatment. He also stressed on the emergence of Multi- Drug Resistant (MDR) TB, the treatment of which was earlier not available in the state.
Cured patients gave their testimony and followed by a presentation was also given.
PEREN: Along with the rest of the world, ‘World T.B. Day’ was observed at Poilwa village Peren district on March 24 with Khrienuo C. Metha, DC Peren cum chairman, district health society, Peren as chief guest.
The programme was attended by officials of various departments, staff of medical department led by Dr. L. Kuotsu, CMO and Dr. Tiasunep DTO Peren, village leaders, public and students of Poilwa and neighboring villages.
The chief guest in her speech lauded medical department for organizing the programme and urged villagers to maintain and lead a healthy life. She further encouraged women not to keep silent but move ahead and avail the 5% share for women from the VDB fund.
With regard to the rich natural resources in the district, she encouraged school students to protect and preserve the rich flora and fauna of the area as they are the real owners.
The program was chaired by Dr. L. Kuotsu, CMO Peren, where he welcomed everyone present and briefed about the significance of the day.
After the function, a mini health camp was also conducted where a total of 120 patients were examined and 10 sputum samples collected. Medicines were provided free of cost and leaflets containing various health messages distributed to the public.
