Around 3000 people from 14 villages across Chessore area participated in the mass silent procession organized by the Yimchungru Women Organization (YWO) on Saturday at Chessore.
During the rally, village councils addressed the gathering and expressed their discontent towards the NSCN/GPRN (IM) for proposing to divide the Yimchungru tribe under Saramati region and Yimchungru region.
Various speakers while pointing out that forceful creation of Saramati region in Pungro area was a direct fragmentation of Yimchungru tribe, also demanded there be one region for one tribe in order to maintain ‘peace and harmony’ amongst the society.
Some of the placard at the procession read, ‘No to imposition of Saramati region in Pungro area (for Tikhir, Chirr, Mukory, Longphur and Para tribes), ‘We demand Yimchungru region for Pungro and Shamator sub- division’, ‘Forceful creation of Saramati region means subjugation of people’s wish’, ‘We condemn the outdated divide and rule policy’, ‘We support NSCN/GPRN (IM) but oppose Saramati region’.
