Christian leaders abroad who conveyed their support towards Naga reconciliation have urged upon Naga political groups to abide by the commitments in the Covenant of Reconciliation.
Rev. Dr. John Sundquist, Rev. Dr. Daniel Buttry and Rev. Ken Sehested in a letter to the Naga leaders, forwarded by the FNR, stated it was the time for taking new steps and making renewed commitment. Stating that all the signatories to the Covenant of Reconciliation abide by the commitments made, the three posed that if there were problems then it was the opportunity to “ work them out, shore up the commitments, establish mechanisms to monitor agreements, and to reaffirm the vision of reconciliation.”
The Church leaders asserted that they honour the commitments of Naga leaders over the past couple of years to the journey toward reconciliation which they said, has a hope-filled future for the Naga people, especially the rising generations, as its inspiration and guide.
The three expressed gratitude to the Naga leaders for taking risks along the journey despite their different positions and situations.
Reminding that it was easy to slide back, lose sight of the vision and to get distracted, the three urged the Naga people as fellow believers in Christ and as leaders among a people who look to Christ for guidance, to prayerfully and in faith take steps forward.
The signatories said they would hold in prayers the Naga leaders and the FNR and hoped that the Spirit of God would be able to work through the Naga leaders to positively accomplish more than could be imagined.
