Dimapur: A general meeting of pensioners affected by the new retirement act would be held on March 9, 11am at Khonoma Building, D. Block near Hindi Revival Church, Kohima. NSGEWA general secretary, E.T Ovung has requested all members to attend the meeting and also to submit their pension case status position.

DFO Dimapur inform registered eco-clubs
DIMAPUR: Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dimapur has informed all schools under Dimapur district having registered eco-clubs to collect ‘seed money’ (token financial assistance to eco-clubs for strengthening of national green corps mission) from the divisional forest officer, Dimapur. The ‘seed money’ would be disbursed to various schools starting March 9 from DFO office, Dimapur during office hours. Further, eco-clubs have been requested to submit their activity report (in about 600 words) for the year 2010-11. The activities of eco-clubs in the district would be evaluated by field verification and given incentives to best performing schools, added DFO.
5-day yoga camp at Kohima concludes
DIMAPUR: The five-day long yoga camp at 16 Assam Rifles ground Kohima, which was inaugurated by yoga guru Baba Ramdev on February 26 last concluded March 2. The camp was conducted by Srikanu, PYS & retired principal from Arunachal Pradesh. The camp, held on the theme ‘Yoga for Health’ was organized by Patanjali Yog Samiti, Kohima unit. Organizers have informed that the next training camp would be held from April 2-9. Meanwhile, organizers have expressed gratitude to all individuals and organizations, participants, Nagaland governor Nikhil Kumar, district administration, police and Assam Rifles for their contributions towards the camp.
Raid at butchers stall in Dimapur
DIMAPUR: The department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection Dimapur conducted raid at butchers stall on March 3 in Nagarjan junction area Dimapur and seized three unequal arm weighting scale (beam scale) from three “habitual users” identified as Shilo Rengma, son of Akhelo of Lorenyu village, Singhlo Rengma, son of Nyhenlo of Jongpha village. Offender would be punished as per the standards of weights and measures Acts and Rules enforced, stated the department. Customers have been advised to be cautious while purchasing commodities specially pork and fishes in the market.
DIMAPUR MAR 3 (NPN): An unidentified body of a local youth (male) aged around 25 has been kept at District hospital Dimapur morgue, for identification. According to police sources, the deceased having dark complexion was recovered from Chathe river side, Seithekima on Thursday and was declared dead after reaching District hospital Dimapur at 12:30pm. Doctor at the hospital said that the deceased passed away due to cardiac arrest. The deceased was wearing a vest and short, and no injury marks were visible on the body of the deceased, police said.
LVC says no to hunting, fishing
DIMAPUR: Lochomi Village Council (LVC) has reiterated its stand on banning hunting and fishing within its jurisdiction to preserve wild life. LVC chairman stated the resolution was reaffirmed by the council during a meeting on February 21. The council also cautioned individuals not to carry arms within the reserved area. Individuals violating the rules would be penalized up to Rs.25000 with stern action as per the rules of council, added LVC.
‘National Science Day’ at Alichen
DIMAPUR: St. Mary’s Residential School, Alichen would be organizing National Science Day’ on March 5, 10am at the school campus under the theme ‘Chemistry in everyday life’ to commemorate the achievement of Dr. C.V Raman on molecular scattering of light and for discovery of Raman Effect. Competition on banner writing, essay writing, drawing and painting, quiz and prepared speech would be conducted to popularize science in the state. Drawing, painting, essay writing and banner writing would be compulsory for students of senior classes.

Mleingi festival at Lekei village: Mleingi festival will be celebrated at Peletkie (Lekei) from March 8-10 with minister for planning & co-ordination, evaluation, veterinary & AH, parliamentary affairs, TR Zeliang as chief guest. The village playground will also be inaugurated during the festival. Meanwhile, chairman of Lekei Mti Nko has invited all government officials posted in Peren district, representatives of surrounding villages and all the residents of Lekei Lui village to join in the celebration.
MBC NE Art fusion contest: The North East Art Fusion contest organsied by the Mind Blowers Club (MBC) under the banner “Summer festival” will be held on June 21. Meanwhile, the organizers further informed that the 7th edition of the ‘Best of the best’ Nagaland Art fusion contest will be held on June 20. Further the screening test will be held in April and semifinals in May. Winner of the state grand finale will represent the state at North East Art Fusion contest.
DMC fixes rate of beef: Based on a joint representation by the butchers for revising the rate of beef, Dimapur Municipal Council has re-fixed the rate at Rs.90 per kilo for cut meat while the head/hoofs and intestines have been fixed at Rs.70 per kg. DMC further warned of strict actions in the form of heavy penalty if any butchers were found violating the above mentioned terms and conditions.

One electrocuted: One Zangom of Nokzang village, a fixed labour under JE (electrical), Tizit was electrocuted on March 2 at Tizit village. The incident was suspected to be lackadaisical attitude of the department, adding the deceased was found with no electrical equipment when the body was recovered. Nokzang village council chairman, Teilei Wangnao and VDB secretary, Naobo Wangnao, blamed the department for the cause of the incident and also demanded to provide ex-gratia to the bereaved family members, adding failure to provide the ex-gratia would invite the council to take its own course of action.
